Ship Shape

A premier Naval Organisation of the Indian Ocean region has selected NuNet for undertaking the digital conversion of large number of critical data of tactical importance. Preservation of the data is as critical as the sustenance of its large fleet in shipshape.

Complexities
Due to very high security reasons, the entire project has been undertaken onsite at client's premises. The work involved the reproduction of documentation which was more than 30 years old and in a very poor condition. Much of the text was not clearly visible and there was a need to undertake re-working of the text in the drawings and documents, including inputting data in non-English script (Russian) due to the very poor quality of the originals. Some of the drawings and books had been used extensively and were torn and mutilated and had to be handled carefully due to the delicate condition. Many of the drawings were old blueprints and were badly discoloured.

Solution Provided
NuNet provided a team of 35 content developers including project managers, image developers, screen printers, binders, support team, etc on site to handle the work. The documents were all unbound, indexed, scanned (frequently by using plastic covers as the paper was falling apart), then touched up using Photoshop as the text was very often unreadable despite the use of high quality scanners. Where required the images were also touched up. The resultant images were then printed and bound into volumes and packaged to "as new" condition. The original also had to be re-bound and packaged and returned in at least the same condition as received. There were about 100,000 drawings and documents in various sizes from A5 to A0 including non-standard sizes also (larger than A0 and smaller than A5 and in-between sizes). The project was completed in a record 4 months.
