The client is New Zealand's specialist tertiary institution that is government-owned and funded, delivering courses throughout New Zealand and internationally for over 30,000 students in 40 other countries annually. All courses accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority or approved by the New Zealand Polytechnic Programmes Committee. Over 170 programmes and 1500 courses are covered from certificate to diploma and degree level from technical and vocational training to higher professional and continuing education. NuNet was awarded the task of developing a supply chain solution with enterprise-wide integration to monitor, distribute and replenish stocks of student study kits. The application enabled complete transparency in fund utilization and administration and helped the university save time, cost and materials.
Complexities
Customizing the critical supply chain solution with enterprise wide integration around a government accredited database without disturbing the database and also ensuring the client server features in a web environment are challenges encountered during the customization and development of this application by NuNet. Built with Microsoft ASP technologies and MS SQL Server database, this automated warehouse distribution and returns management system involves complex integration with the NZQA compliant student registration system and other legacy applications used by the client with multiple levels of security to restrict access to users within its organization.
Solution Provided
Automated warehouse
distribution system that ensures distribution
of student study kits using hierarchical barcode
management system based on geographical regions
with facility to print / reprint damaged barcodes.
This system also
ensures the database on student kits and integration
with inventory management systems for monitoring
the stock movements, replenishments and maintaining
minimum stock levels.
The return management
features of this system ensure interfacing with
warehouse distribution for managing the undelivered
student study kits and their accounting as per
the stock holdings with the help of bar code technology.
The system has
incorporated the customer management features
to locate the students who are out of communication
and redistributes the student kits through the
warehouse distribution system.
Success of this customization demonstrated the technical
competencies of NuNet. Other subsidiary student management
systems developed by NuNet for one of the universities
of New Zealand are in pipeline for customization and
annual maintenance to this client.
